Bell ringing can trace its history all the way back to the sixteenth century.
At its height, bell ringing was as a popular pastime as football is today. Churches would have their own teams of ringers with striking competitions held between towers.
Sadly many towers share bands of ringers and with the numbers of ringing falling a number of toweres are falling silent.
Since our reformation back in 1999, Swanton Morley has had an active band with ringers coming from miles around to attend our weekly practice.
Along with towers across the country, post Covid'19, Swanton Morley has experience a drop in ringers meaning we don't always have enough ringers for a practice and often cannot get a band to ring for services.
We don't want to become another one of those towers who fall silent, we want to secure the future of ringing at Swanton Morley and WE NEED YOU!
